Hollywood has embraced the bi-curious girl hookup for some time but here at Palisades Pool Party, we want to give some kudos to the shows of the small screen that allowed their teen leading ladies to fall in love with other ladies. So here is our list of teen lesbian relationships that we felt were presented with honesty and only a hint of sensationalism for ratings.
6. Jessie and Katie on "Once and Again"
Jessie (Evan Rachel Wood) and Katie (Mischa Barton) have a budding romance in season 3 of "Once and Again." It is one of the first depictions of teen girls doing more than just experimenting with other girls in primetime.
5. Claire and Gretchen on "Heroes"
Not only can super girl, Claire (Hayden Panettiere) self heal, she can also fall in love with a girl and she does in Heroes season 4 with Gretchen (Madeline Zima) her first friend and eventual "roommate" freshman year in college. There is apprehension at first but she falls for surel.
4. Marissa and Alex on "The OC"
Mischa Barton is back on our list as Marissa Cooper (RIP) who fell for a girl in season 2 of the OC. Marissa's romance with Alex (Olivia Wilde) was sweet but short when Marissa realized that she was still in love with Ryan...yawn.
3. Naomily on "Skins"
In the age of name mashing, Naomily (Naomi and Emily played by Lily Loveless and Kathryn Prescott) is the "Skins" series 3 &4 couple to watch. It is the most cultivated and popular relationship in the show's four year run. They've recently hit a rough patch since Naomi cheated on Emily...bitch! But they are clearly still in love and we hope they can make it work.
2. Spashley on "South of Nowhere"
Again with the name mashing! On SON, the preppy Spencer (Gabrielle Christian) and the wild Ashley (Mandy Musgrave) have a rocky relationship, the "on again, off again" type. Is it true love? Most likely.
1. Willow and Tara & Willow and Kennedy on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
Willow (Alyson Hannigan) found lesbianism, witchcraft and love with Tara (Amber Benson) in season 4 of BVS. After a tragic accident that took Tara's life, Willow spiraled out of control for a while. Thankfully the forward and beautiful, Kennedy (Iyari Limon) helped her find that fuzzy feeling again in season 7.
And of course, we can't pay homage to these romances without mentioning the hit web drama, ANYONE BUT ME which depicts two lesbian teens, Vivian and Aster who are deeply in love. The show is one of the best written and acted series on the web. Catch up on season 1 and the first episodes of season 2!
Spoiler: This list might need to expand after the new 90210 returns with a romance blossoming between Adrianna (played by Jessica Lowndes) and Gia (played by Rumer Willis). Chances are it is just a bi-curious romp but who knows, this show could surprise us. Then again, could it really?
